Saraba Natsu no Hikari (1968)

Recently I’ve been attracted by the Japanese Noberu Bagu and some of their directors, Kiju Yoshida in particular. I came across some stills of his work and when seeing some footage at Youtube I was immediately convinced, at least on the visual aspect. And I was right, from the two movies I’ve seen I could easily state that by way of photographic composition and framing its one of the most stylized I ever came across.

Farewell to the Summer Light is a poetic and minimalistic narration of the love story about two Japanese on the Europe continent who retrieve their love for homeland Japan in each other. All set in the European scenery of the time, as we follow the couple trough Lissabon, Rome, Paris, a bunch of other great cities and even a couple of minutes Amsterdam. Maria Okada is dressed so clean and simple and her co-star is even more refined, especially when wearing the woolen beige jacket with the blue pocket-square. Beautiful.
